Course Description
While this course is heavy in writing, it is intended to move past stylistic techniques and teach students how to clearly articulate their point of view on a subject matter with ease and grace. It teaches them the process of how to write an essay from idea generation to the execution of a well well-organized, well-communicated essay. It has been said that this course, above all, teaches students how to think.
Effective organization of thought allows students to:
- analyze options in order to make better decisions
- read and understand more complicated writing
- improve their debate and public speaking skills
- be prepared for University writing
From a literature perspective we delve into an anthology of character-based stories where we will teach students how to evaluate narrative writing, put sound to meaning in poetry, distinguish fact from fiction and understand elements of a novel. Students are also equipped with tools to help them master additional vocabulary and its application in various formats.
